Frequently asked questions
Does it use a lot of (cellular) data?
Your photos are never uploaded or downloaded. Data is used only for the map background (OpenFreeMap) and for looking up place names.
- A place name lookup is a few KB or less, so it barely uses data.
- The map background uses data when you open an area for the first time. Viewing a whole city usually takes 1–3 MB; zooming in to street level around a large city such as Tokyo or Seoul can take tens of MB.
- Map areas you have opened are kept on your device and not downloaded again. You can remove them in Settings > Clear cache.
If you don't want to use cellular data, turn off Re:Mapping in iPhone Settings > Cellular. Your saved trips and photos stay available, and new map areas load when you're on Wi-Fi.
